The Parent’s Guide to Self-Care
Doctors and mental health professionals agree that self-care is important and has shown to improve health outcomes in adults. Yet many people, especially parents, still neglect to take care of themselves. Parents struggle to take the time to care for themselves the same way they nurture and care for their children. Help Me Grow Solano is here to tell you that self-care is an absolute must, even if it’s only 5 minutes out of your day.
Not sure where to start? Here is a list of easy self-care activities that can help you feel recharged and refreshed.
- Laughter is the best medicine. Take a few minutes to watch funny YouTube videos, listen to a funny podcast, or watch clips from your favorite comedian.
- Take an “everything” shower. For some, shower time is the only time they spend alone throughout the day. Indulge in your alone time by doing everything that makes you feel extra pampered. Try putting on some music, doing a face mask, and exfoliating. You deserve it!
- Get some sunshine. Did you know that more than a third of adults in the U.S. are vitamin D deficient? A simple way to boost your mood and up your vitamin D levels is by spending a little time in the sun.
- Try a new hobby. Visit your local craft store and pick out an activity. Consider trying painting, crochet, or jewelry-making. Crafts are a great way to engage in self-care while also exploring your creative side.
- Sleep! We all need sleep to recharge. Even if it’s a 10-minute power nap, or choosing to go to bed 30 minutes early, getting more sleep can improve your mood and boost your energy.
